Congenital Mitral Stenosis.

چکیده
CONGENITAL stenotic lesions of the mitral valve may be classified into various groups depending on the functional capacity of the left ventricle. In the extreme form, s8vere stenosis or atresia of the mitral valve is associated with hypoplasia of the left ventricle and aorta. Septal defects are usually present and these combinations are lethal in infaincy.i' 2 In the presence of a functioning left ventricle, the anomaly is compatible with survival, and the stenotic valvular lesion produces an increased pressure proximal to the mitral valve, resulting in left atrial enlargement, pulmonary venous and arterial hypertension, and ultimately congestive heart failure. Although congenital isolated mitral stenosis is rare, it is often associated with a poor prognosis. This report is concerned with a study of isolated congenital mitral stenosis. Mitral stenosis associated with other cardiac anomalies is discussed briefly.

Double orifice mitral valve (DOMV) is an uncommon anomaly that was first described by Greenfield. Since then more than 200 cases have been reported. In this anomaly, mitral valve has a single fibrous annulus which opens with two openings into the left ventricle. We report a case of DOMV accompanied with severe stenosis in a 22-year old female who had complaints of moderate dyspnea. In transth...
متن کاملPacman Heart as a Congenital Cardiac Defect Associated with Flail Mitral Valve and a Partial form of Shone\'s Complex; A Case Report
Partial muscular inter-ventricular septal defect (VSD) or Pacman heart is a rare congenital or occasionally acquired anomaly. Concurrent Pacman heart and Shone's complex are extremely rare and have never been reported until now. We described a 37-year-old male patient with congenital Pacman heart, flail mitral valve (FMV), and a history of multiple congenital anomalies, including subvalvular ao...
متن کاملEchocardiography in the diagnosis of congenital mitral stenosis and in evaluation of the results of mitral valvotomy.
Seven patients with congenital mitral stenosis have been investigated with echocardiography using reflected ultrasound. In all cases the mitral stenosis was combined with other cardiovascular malformations. The results are compared with those obtained at clinical investigation, cardiac catheterization, and operation and/or autopsy. It is concluded that the method is of definite value in diagnos...
متن کاملIsolated congenital mitral stenosis.
ISOLATED congenital mitral stenosis is an extremely rare condition. Only 8 cases have been reported in the literature, whereas 37 cases are recorded in association with other cardiac anomalies, such as patent ductus arteriosus, aortic stenosis, coarctation of the aorta, and aortic valve anomaly.' This paper describes 2 female infants, 4 months and 3 months old, respectively, with isolated conge...
متن کاملCongenital mitral stenosis. Anatomical and functional assessment by echocardiography.
Digitised left ventricular echocardiograms were studied in nine children with congenital mitral stenosis to assess the severity of inflow obstruction. In six children the two prime indices of mitral stenosis were abnormal, with a prolonged time from minimum dimension to 20 per cent dimension change and a reduced peak dimension change during diastole. In three, however, these values did not sugg...
متن کاملCombined mitral and aortic valve stenosis caused by two different etiologies, rheumatic and congenital.
Described herein are five patients who had double left-sided cardiac valve replacement for mitral and aortic valve stenosis resulting from two different etiologies: rheumatic heart disease, the cause of the mitral stenosis, and congenital heart disease (bicuspid valve), the underlying cause of the aortic stenosis.
